Kris Minarik (Gymnastics, 1975-1977): Kris was an outstanding gymnast at University HS in Spokane where she was an All Around competitor. Kris competed in the first year of the CCS gymnastics program and was the first of many outstanding All Around gymnasts that Spokane would have. Kris took first place as an All Around and on Floor Exercise in 7 out of 8 meets her sophomore year against four year colleges. She regularly scored in the top three on balance beam as well. Minarik was Team Captain her second season and Most Valuable for both of her seasons in Spokane. Kris went on to get a degree in Education from Brigham Young University.
Shawn Roberts (Gymnastics, 1978-1979): Shawn Roberts graduated from Deer Park HS where she qualified for the WIAA Gymnastics Championships. She went to Oregon College of Education her freshman year to compete in gymnastics. Roberts then transferred to CCS her sophomore year and became our first National Junior College Athletic Association All-American. At the NJCAA Nationals she was 3rd on Balance Beam, 3rd on Floor Exercise and took 6th Place in the All Around. Shawn helped Spokane earn a 3rd Place finish in it’s first appearance at the 1979 NJCAA Championships in Birmingham, Alabama. She came back to CCS to be an assistant coach in 1983 & 1984 after competing at WSU her junior and senior years.
Toni Swanson (Gymnastics, 1978-1979): Toni Swanson was from perennial Washington State Gymnastics Championship Team Sehome HS in Bellingham, Washington and coached by WIAA Hall of Fame Coach Nola Ayres. Toni was a Uneven Bar specialist. At the 1979 NJCAA National Championships, she took 2nd Place on the Unevens to Australian Olympian Wanta Lynch and became CCS’s second NJCAA All-American. Toni helped Spokane earn it’s 3rd Place Team Finish at the National Championship Meet in Birmingham, Alabama.
Dauphyne Yocom (Gymnastics, 1978-1980): Dauphyne Yocom came to CCS from Juanita HS in Kirkland, Washington. She competed all-around at CCS with her best single event being the Uneven Bars. In the 1979 NJCAA Championship she placed 6th on Bars, 8th on Floor and 7th All Around. Then in 1980 Yocom became our first National Uneven Bar Champion . Her excellent performance contributed to CCS’s first NJCAA National Team Championship in Essex, Maryland.
Suzy Hutchinson (Gymnastics, 1978-1980): Suzy Hutchinson was from Lake Washington HS in Kirkland Washington. She was 11th on Floor Exercise and 13th on Vault in the 1979 NJCAA Championship Meet in Birmingham, Alabama. Hutchinson helped CCS to win its first NJCAA Team Title with her 4th place finish on Vault and 7th on Floor in the 1980 NJCAA Championship. Suzy later went on to compete at the University of Washington.
Suzy Barrett (Gymnastics, 1978-1980): Suzy Barrett joined the CCS team after competing at Shadle Park HS for WIAA Hall of Fame Coach Lyle Pugh. She was always a top beam competitor for CCS. After she earned an 11th place finish on Beam at the 1979 National championships. Suzy earned a 5th place Balance Beam medal at the 1980 NJCAA National championship meet in Essex Maryland and helped CCS win its first NJCAA Gymnastics Championship Team Title. Barrett went on to compete in gymnastics at Eastern Washington University her Junior and Senior years.
Becky McWilliams (Gymnastics, 1979-1980): Becky competed for local gymnastic power Ferris High School where she was a state championship finalist before coming to CCS. She placed 4th on Floor Exercise at the 1980 NJCAA Gymnastics Championships in Essex Maryland. Becky also earned a place in the Top Ten Balance Beam competitors at the NCWSA Regional Championship against Pacific Northwest four year colleges and universities. Becky went on to compete for the University of Washington.
Kerri Kanegae (Gymnastics, 1979-1981): Kerri was a WIAA state gymnastics qualifier from Interlake High School. She became CCS’s first National Junior College All Around Champion in 1980. Kanegae also brought home the Gold Medal on Floor Exercise, the Silver Medal on Uneven Bars, and the Bronze Medal on Vault, winning All American honors in each of these events. Her sophomore year she placed third on the Uneven Bars at the NJCAA Championship meet held in Spokane and again earned All American honors. Kanegae’s efforts helped CCS to two win National Championships.
Shelli Waddell (Gymnastics, 1979-1981): Shelli came to CCS from Central Valley High School in Spokane. She had been a gymnastics state qualifier and was coached by CCS Hall of Fame Coach Jo McDonald before she came to CCS. At the 1980 NJCAA Championships Shelli was Bronze Medalist in the All Around, Bronze Medalist on Floor and took 4th place on Uneven Bars earning herself three All American Awards and helping CCS to its first NJCAA National Gymnastics Championship Title.
Lisa Bollinger (Gymnastics, 1980-1982): Lisa was recruited from Wenatchee HS, where she was in the Wenatchee Youth Circus as well as a competitive gymnast. At the 1981 NJCAA Championships she placed 3rd All Around, 3rd on Balance Beam and 2nd on Floor Exercise, winning All American Honors. Lisa followed that up with a 5th place All Around, 5th on Beam and 3rd place Floor finish at the 1982 National Championships held in Odessa, Texas again earning All American honors. Lisa competed her next two in gymnastics years at Washington State University. She came back to Spokane be an assistant gymnastics coach at CCS in 1986.
Theresa Peterson (Gymnastics, 1980-1982): Theresa was from Shadle Park High School in Spokane where she competed for WIAA Hall of Fame coach Lyle Pugh. She was 2nd on Balance Beam at the 1981 NJCAA Championships in Spokane, 7th on Floor Exercise and 10th All-Around becoming an All American for her efforts. Theresa went on to compete for Eastern Washington University for her next 2 years and later became a successful High School and Club coach as well as a Gymnastics Judge.
Rhona Roberts (Gymnastics, 1980-1982): Rhona competed for Deer Park High School and was a WIAA Gymnastic Finalist. She followed her sister Shawn Roberts to CCS. Rhona is tied for our All Time High Beam Score with a (9.05). At the 1981 NJCAA Championships Rhona placed 2nd on Beam, 4th on Floor and 4th All Around becoming an All American. The next year at the 1982 National Championships in Odessa, Texas she placed 7th on Beam, 8th on Bars, 9th on Vault and was 6th in the All Around, again earning All American Honors.
Gail Thieman (Gymnastics, 1980-1982): Gail came to CCS from University High School in the Spokane Valley. She is one of the all time top vaulters that competed for Spokane. Gail became the 1981 NJCAA Vaulting Champion at the Championship Meet held in Spokane and placed 6th in the All Around. At the 1982 Championships in Odessa, Texas she took 2nd on Vault, 5th on Bars, and 8th place All Around. Gail earned All-American honors at both Championships.
Karen Erickson (Gymnastics, 1981-1983): Karen Erickson came to CCS from Ferris High School. She is a 2 time NJCAA National Floor Exercise Champion (1982 & 1983) and was also the 1982 Beam Champion. Karen Placed 2nd in the All Around, 3rd on Bars and 4th on Vault at the 1982 Championships. At the 1983 NJCAA Championships heald in Farmingdale, NY she earned 2nd on Floor and Vault, 6th on Bars as well as 4th All Around. Erickson went on to compete in gymnastics at Washington State University. Karen continued with gymnastics as a judge and successful high school and club coach.
Pam Sinclair (Gymnastics, 1982-1984): Pam Sinclair came to CCS from Central Kitsap High School in Bremerton, Washington where she was a WIAA State Gymnastics Finalist. At the 1983 NJCAA Gymnastics Championships she won Gold both in Vaulting and Bars. Sinclair turned in a 3rd place finish on Floor and 8th on Beam to earn 2nd Place in the All Around and All American honors. Pam has continued working in gymnastics as a club coach.
Pauline Anderson (Gymnastics, 1983-1985): Pauline Anderson competed in high school Gymnastics at Olympic HS in Bremerton, Washington. CCS was unable to attend the 1984 NJCAA Championships but Pauline helped make up for it in 1985 by becoming the NJCAA Gymnast of the Year. Anderson was 3rd on Uneven Bars as well as well as Vaulting and took 4th place All around and earning All American Honors. Pauline has the CCS All Time All Around record high score of (34.85).
Shelli Anderson (Gymnastics, 1984-1986): Shelli Anderson was from Port Angeles High School. She became CCS’s Third NJCAA National Vaulting Champion in 1986 after a 6th place finish at the 1985 Championship where she also finished 6th on Balance Beam. In the All Around Shelli was 7th in 1985 and 8th in 1986. Anderson won All American Honors each year for her outstanding efforts. Shelli has the All Time highest Vaulting score ever recorded for CCS (9.20).
Kerri Chong (Gymnastics, 1984-1986): Kerri Chong traveled to CCS from Milwaukie High School in Milwaukie, Oregon. She was 4th on Balance Beam at the NJCAA Championship Meet in 1985 and 12th All Around. At the 1986 NJCAAChampionship Meet Kerri was 6th All Around, 5th on Floor and 7th on Bars, again winning All American Honors. Chong is tied for our All Time Beam high score with a (9.05), is 4th All Time in the All Around (34.65), 8th All Time on Vault (8.85), 10th on Bars All Time, and 9th on Floor All Time.
Melanie Vacca (Gymnastics,1984-1986): Melanie Vacca competed for Lindberg High School in Renton, Washington. At the 1986 NJCAA Gymnastics in Championship Spokane, WA, she finished 6th All Around, 4th on Vault and 7th on Floor Exercise winning Melanie All American Honors. She received the highest CCS All Time Score on Uneven Bars with a (9.05) and also on Floor Exercise with a (9.30). She is 5th on our All Time Vault high score list with a (8.95) and 2nd on our All Time All Around list with a (34.80).
