The Community Colleges of Spokane, which includes Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College and their satellite campuses, have determined that all spring graduation ceremonies will be held virtually.
SCC and SFCC will each host a livestreamed web-based ceremony on June 18, 2021, with presentations by college and student leaders and a performance by the SFCC choir.
“We had hoped to be able to celebrate commencement with an in-person ceremony this year but we are not able to do that for safety reasons so we have elected to create a fun virtual experience instead,” said Kimberlee Messina, president of Spokane Falls Community College, where the majority of classes have been online this year.
At Spokane Community College, President Kevin Brockbank said, “We have had many classes on campus this year and have maintained a safe environment for students and employees, but having a large event poses challenges far beyond what we deal with on campus and we are disappointed but feel we are making the right decision by having the ceremony be online.”
Students will be able to post photos and honor their fellow graduating students and each graduate will receive their diploma and a printed program in the mail as well as their graduation caps and tassels and some college memorabilia.
