CCS Class of 2017 takes flight

Spokane Community College (SCC) and Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) students have earned nearly 3,000 college degrees and professional certificates, plus more than 300 certificates signifying GED, ESL or high school completion, as commencement ceremonies gear up beginning Tuesday, June 13.

Community Colleges of Spokane’s 2017 graduation schedule and details:

Tuesday, June 13, 6 p.m.
Adult Basic Education-College-GED-ESL graduation, Spokane Community College, Johnson Sports Complex, Building 5, 1810 N. Greene St.: A total of 234 students earned GEDs, 40 English as a Second Language certificates and 42 earned High School Completions.

Wednesday, June 14, 6:30 p.m.
SCC Newport Center commencement, Stratton Elementary, 1201 W. Fifth, Newport, Wash.:
The center is awarding 16 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees and 6 associate in applied science (AAS) degrees. One student earned High School Completion.

Thursday, June 15, 6 p.m.
SCC Colville-Inchelium-Ione-Republic Centers commencement, Colville Center, 985 S. Elm St., Colville, Wash.:
The Centers are awarding 63 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees (55 Colville graduates, 2 from Inchelium, 2 from Ione and 4 from Republic), 15 associate in applied science (AAS) degrees (10 from Colville, 1 from Ione and 4 from Republic) and 18 professional certificates (15 Colville graduates, 1 Ione graduate and 2 Republic graduates). Twenty students earned their GEDs, including 17 from Colville and 3 from Republic.

Friday, June 16, 3 p.m.
SFCC commencement, Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, 720 W. Mallon Ave.:
964 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees, associate of applied science (AAS) degrees, certificates and professional degrees. Of these 964, 109 Running Start students from 22 high schools in the area who are earning both their high school diplomas and college degrees and 15 international students from Brazil, China, Columbia, Japan, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, and Vietnam who are receiving their degrees today. Bonnie Wagner, education faculty member, will be the keynote speaker.

Friday, June 16, 7 p.m.
SCC commencement, Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, 720 W. Mallon Ave.:
SCC is awarding 450 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees, 8 associate in biology transfer degrees, 23 associate in business transfer degrees and 3 associate in pre-nursing transfer degrees. The school is also awarding 302 in Business, Hospitality and Information Technology, 437 in Health and Environmental Sciences and 571 in Technical Education associate of applied science (AAS) degrees and professional certificates.

Monday, June 19, 6:30 p.m.
SFCC Pullman Campus commencement, Bell Tower, 125 S.E. Spring St., Pullman, Wash.
SFCC Pullman Campus is awarding 20 AA degrees and 2 AAS degrees. In addition, eight students are receiving their High School Completions and three are receiving their GEDs.

Community Colleges of Spokane is a dynamic, 12,300-square-mile state community college district that includes Spokane Community College, Spokane Falls Community College and six rural education sites, serving residents in Pend Oreille, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry and parts of Lincoln counties.
