NWAC Heptathalon 2024

[Eugene, Oregon] The longest week of the Sasquatch track season turned out to be one of epic proportions. The women’s track and field team competed at the Oregon State High Performance meet April 26 - 27, including all three of the school’s heptathletes. However, the main event for these particular student athletes began on Monday April 29th with the first four events of the two-day NWAC Heptathlon Championships at Lane Community College.

The heptathlon crew consisted of Saira Schoener, Peyton Fox, Afton Wood and Eli Davis. A total of seventeen personal bests out of twenty-eight events was just the beginning for this group. Each recorded a season and lifetime best total score.

Event winners included Afton Wood in the 200m running 27.61, 800m running 2:26.30, 100m hurdles running 16.77 and for the second year in a row Schoener winning the javelin with a toss of 133’ 1.25”.

In just her second heptathlon Wood was incredible and scored a team high 3625 points just missing the conference title by twenty-nine points. Schoener was sixth with 3223, Fox was seventh with 2902 and Davis finished out the scoring with 2809.

The Sasquatch scored fourteen big points for the women’s team heading into the NWAC Championship meet on May 20-21 at Mt Hood Community College.
