Spokane Colleges Launches AI Programs

Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is set to launch a new Artificial Intelligence certificate program beginning Fall 2026. The initiative—backed by a $152,000 state grant—is designed to prepare students for AI-driven roles in cybersecurity, healthcare, and manufacturing.

Program lead and cybersecurity professor Mark Neufville emphasizes AI’s integral role: “These technologies are not going away. That ship has sailed. We need to use education to prepare students for the workforce they enter,” he said, underlining how AI is essential for threat analysis and diagnostic tools. He also appeared in an interview with Fox 13 Seattle, highlighting that the program gives students “an edge in the era of A.I.”

Alongside the full certificate, SFCC will offer short, non-credit community courses this fall in General AI and AI in Healthcare — accessible to all for $65.
