Spokane Colleges Foundation Launches Student Support Appeal

The Spokane Colleges Foundation today announced it is seeking donations for food support at Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College and emergency support administered by the Spokane Colleges Foundation. The Student Support Appeal seeks to address an acute increase in demand for basic needs support among students, providing supplemental funding for emergency aid and each college’s food pantry.

“The Foundation usually asks for help supporting students’ futures,” said Heather Beebe-Stevens, Executive Director of the Spokane Colleges Foundation. “But right now, many of our students are not thinking about their futures – they are wondering how they are going to feed their kids tonight.”

Donations to the Student Support Appeal can be made online through the Foundation’s website. Donors can choose whether to contribute to food support, emergency support, or both.

Food support donations will be allocated to both colleges. Emergency support donations will help students facing financial emergencies including the loss of childcare or broken items like eyeglasses and computers that threaten academic achievement.

“Our students are working to further their education and their careers, but no one can be successful at college if their basic needs aren’t met,” said Beebe-Stevens. “These donations will help make sure students who are working hard for their own futures—and to enrich our workforce and community—don’t get derailed before they complete their programs.”

More information about the Basic Needs programs at Spokane Falls Community College and the Food and Resource Center at Spokane Community College is available on the colleges’ websites.
