Spokane Community College’s Food and Resource Center is seeing more students turn to its shelves and support services this fall. The increase in visits caught the attention of KHQ News, whose team came to campus to learn how the college is responding to growing student need.
The Food and Resource Center offers free access to groceries, fresh produce, hygiene supplies, and even baby items for students balancing school, work, and family responsibilities. Staff have seen demand for food and other items steadily increase, and the center has become a critical resource for more students. In response, the pantry has expanded its outreach and adjusted inventory to keep pace with the higher volume of requests.
KHQ’s story highlights how the center has become an essential part of student life—providing not just food, but also stability and community. The resource center is open to anyone who may be struggling with food insecurity or other financial pressures, and reminds students that seeking support is an important component of academic success.
