Public Invited to Reception and Gallery Opening January 13
Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) has selected Claire Rae Edmo as its next sƛ̓x̣etkʷ Artist-in-Residence. Edmo’s three-month residency will take place during winter quarter 2026, from January 5 through March 26, and will begin with a public welcome and opening reception on Tuesday, January 13.
The campus community and public are invited to attend the welcome reception from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on January 13, 2026, in the lobby of the sƛ̓x̣etkʷ Fine and Applied Arts Building (Building 32).
In conjunction with the residency, artworks by Claire Rae Edmo will be exhibited in the SFCC Fine Art Gallery, on view in the Here & Now Fine Art Department Exhibition from January 13 through February 10, 2026.
The sƛ̓x̣etkʷ Artist-in-Residence program is an annual, three-month residency designed to support an emerging Native American artist who is an enrolled member of a U.S. federally recognized Tribe. The program provides a stipend, lodging, and access to state-of-the-art studio space within the SFCC Fine Art Department, supporting both artistic growth and professional development.
Edmo, an emerging artist and recent Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from the University of Idaho, shared the following about her background and artistic goals: “I aim to represent my Indigenous culture to connect and share with others,” she said. “Relationship building in the art community is important to me because I believe every artist can learn from one another, while also noticing what inspires us or what we want to achieve in our work."
