Spokane Community College Joins National Partnership to Expand Semiconductor Workforce Education

Students interested in semiconductor careers, electronics training, and advanced manufacturing will soon have access to new opportunities at Spokane Community College (SCC).

SCC has joined the National Network for Microelectronics Education (NNME) Pacific-Intermountain Network for Education in Semiconductors, a regional partnership of colleges, universities, and industry leaders working together to strengthen microelectronics education and prepare the next generation of technicians, engineers, and manufacturing professionals across the western United States.

As a grant partner, SCC will receive funding to expand workforce development efforts led by faculty in the college's Electronics Department. The partnership supports the growing demand for skilled workers in the semiconductor and microelectronics industries by helping colleges develop industry-aligned curriculum, strengthen employer partnerships, and create more pathways into high-demand technical careers.

Expanding Electronics Training in Eastern Washington
Following the partnership's formal announcement, SCC will begin coordinating with Boise State University and other network partners as grant subawards are finalized in the coming weeks. Electronics faculty, led by grant coordinator Melody Fyre, will focus on curriculum alignment, expanding work-based learning opportunities, and preparing for a summer electronics program.

These efforts will strengthen the college's electronics training offerings while helping students gain the technical knowledge and practical experience needed for careers in semiconductor manufacturing, microelectronics, automation, and related advanced technology fields.

Preparing Students for Semiconductor Careers and Advanced Manufacturing Jobs
Demand for workers with electronics, manufacturing, and technical skills continues to grow across the Pacific Northwest. In the Spokane region, investments such as Solstice Advanced Materials' expansion of its Spokane Valley facility are creating new opportunities for skilled workers in advanced manufacturing and semiconductor-related industries.

"The semiconductor industry is creating new opportunities throughout the Pacific Northwest, and Eastern Washington is positioned to benefit from that growth," said Dr. Jenni Martin, president of Spokane Community College. "This partnership will help Spokane Community College connect students with good careers and help manufacturers build the skilled workforce they need."

The Pacific-Intermountain Network is one of four regional hubs in the National Network for Microelectronics Education. By bringing together educational institutions and industry partners, the network is expanding microelectronics education through industry-informed curriculum, hands-on learning experiences, and stronger connections between students and employers.

As the partnership moves forward, Spokane Community College will help prepare students for rewarding semiconductor careers, support the region's growing advanced manufacturing sector, and strengthen Eastern Washington's pipeline of skilled technical talent.
