Chancellor Finalists Announced by Community Colleges of Spokane

The Board of Trustees for Community Colleges of Spokane announced its four finalists for the Chancellor position following a nationwide recruitment that yielded highly qualified candidates from across the country.

Each of the finalists will visit Spokane during March to take part in open forums and interviews.  Community members are welcome to take part in the forums, which begin this week.

For detailed information about the finalists and their public forums, visit our website: https://ccs.spokane.edu/Chancellor-Finalists

The finalists are:

  • Nicole Albo-Lopez, interim vice-chancellor of educational programs and institutional effectiveness for the Los Angeles Community College District

  • Kevin Brockbank, president of Spokane Community College

  • Marty Cavalluzzi, president of Olympic College in Bremerton

  • Nicole Esposito, chief executive officer of Manchester Community College in Connecticut

“We believe each of these finalists is highly qualified and has a strong commitment to the role of community colleges and the people we serve,” said Trustee Chairman Mike Wilson. “We encourage the community, our students and all of our employees to take part in the open forums to meet these finalists and share their impressions with the Trustees.”

Wilson co-chaired the Chancellor Screening Committee with Trustee Beth Thew and the committee included members of the faculty, staff, administration and community. The committee recommended these finalists to the Board, which will make the final hiring decisions.

Each finalist will take part in two open, public forums on the campuses of Spokane Falls Community College and Spokane Community College, as well as interviews with the Board of Trustees and the District Cabinet.

The former chancellor, Christine Johnson, retired at the end of December after leading the community college district for 12 years. Longtime CCS executive Greg Stevens is serving as acting chancellor until the position is filled.

CCS is one of the largest education providers in Eastern Washington, serving approximately30,000 students a year at Spokane Falls Community College and Spokane Community College, over 30 Head Start and Early Head Start Centers, numerous Corporate and Continuing Education programs and programs for senior citizens.

Community Colleges of Spokane provides services throughout a 12,302 square mile region that includes all of Spokane, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry and Pend Oreille Counties, as well as portions of Lincoln County. Both colleges of CCS are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and governed by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges.
