[Spokane, Wash.] Spokane Community College (SCC) is launching a fast-track transfer degree, allowing students to complete a two-year Associate of Arts (AA) degree in half the time. It is the first one-year AA degree in the state.
“This new option is great for students who are eager to get their AA degree and transfer onto a 4-year college or enter the workforce,” said SCC President Kevin Brockbank. “We have a lot of highly motivated students who would rather attend college year-round to achieve their goals faster.”
The Fast Track Your Future program is fully online and offered asynchronously. This means students do not need to be online at a specific time. Students in this program will have the flexibility they need to balance school with busy lives, Brockbank said.
Registration begins November 7 for the new Fast Track Your Future degree path. Classes begin in January and continue throughout the calendar year, including a full class schedule in the summer. Students will complete their AA Transfer degree in December 2023. A new group of Fast Track students will begin every quarter, each with a schedule to complete their degree in 12 months.
Through agreements between Washington State’s community and technical colleges and four-year partners within the state and region, the accelerated Associate of Arts – Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) prepares students to transfer to all four-year colleges and universities in Washington state and many others in the region, assuming they meet all other admissions requirements. This program is a good fit for students in most major areas but not all.

With a DTA degree students can complete general education requirements, explore multiple fields of study through elective credits, and be prepared to transfer to a four-year college or university with junior standing – all at a substantially lower cost than most four-year schools. Most students who attend SCC are eligible for financial support including grants, scholarships and on-campus employment opportunities.
