The NWAC Athletic Director’s Cup (Dr. Maury Ray Cup) is staying put.
For the 8th year in a row, Community Colleges of Spokane has been awarded the NWAC Athletic Director’s Cup! This award is bestowed upon the school that performs the best in each of the conference’s 15 men’s and women’s championships. Points are awarded in order of finish and averaged between a team’s regular season and NWAACC championship.
“Winning the Dr. Maury Ray Cup, which is named after our former athletic director, is truly a team win for our department,” said CCS Athletic Director Jim Fitzgerald, referring to the legendary former coach.
We are proud of all our student athletes’ hard work, both inside and outside the classroom. The NWAC Athletic Director’s Cup has not been awarded for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but our teams have ensured that it is rightfully staying in its well-established Spokane home.
It was a great year of achievements for our Bigfoot athletic teams! To name a few:
-
The Volleyball team won the North Region as the 4th seed and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NWAC Championships
-
The women’s soccer team finished in 3rd place in the East Region
-
The men’s soccer team had three players make the East Region Honorable Mention
-
Both the men’s and women’s cross-country teams finished in 2nd place at the NWAC Championships
-
The women’s and men’s basketball teams both made it to the Elite Eight at the NWAC Championships
-
The men’s track and field team placed 2nd at the NWAC Championships
-
The men’s golf team placed 3rd, and the women’s golf team placed 2nd at the NWAC Championships
-
The baseball team finished in 1st place in the East Region
CCS student-athletes were also consistently awarded NWAC Leadership and Excellence Awards throughout the school year.
“Our coaches and staff strive every day to give our CCS student-athletes a first-class experience both athletically and academically, and this award is a reflection of their hard work and dedication,” Fitzgerald said. “It is a great day to be a Sasquatch!”
