In accordance with Gov. Jay Inslee’s updated health guidance on masks, Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) announced that masks will be optional on all campuses beginning Saturday, March 12.
“We couldn’t be happier to see everyone’s faces again,” said Spokane Community College President Brockbank. “This direction – backed by solid public health data and guidance – is a good indication that the worst of the pandemic is behind us.”
In addition to making mask-wearing optional for Spring Quarter, CCS also shared college graduations will be held in-person this year on June 17 at the Spokane Arena – a venue that has hosted thousands of community college graduates for more than 10 years.
“We’ve had remarkable success in following health guidelines to keep people safe while providing students with an uninterrupted excellent education,” said Spokane Falls Community College President Kimberlee Messina. “We look forward to everyone gathering together at our graduation celebrations to honor our students.”
SCC and SFCC also will be inviting graduates from 2020 and 2021, who had virtual graduations, to walk across the stage and be honored this June along with the 2022 graduates.
Since the pandemic first began in March 2020, CCS students and employees across the 6-county service area have been diligent and steadfast in following all local, state and federal COVID-19 health directives, including all indoor and outdoor mask policies, Messina said.
The updated guidance affects all Spokane Community College, Spokane Falls Community College, and district campuses and locations. Those who wish to continue wearing masks are encouraged to do so and masks will continue to be provided on campuses.
