Governor Reappoints Glenn Johnson to Serve on CCS Board of Trustees

[Spokane, Wash.] Gov. Jay Inslee reappointed Glenn Johnson to a second term on the Community Colleges of Spokane’s Board of Trustees. Johnson originally joined the board on February 5, 2018. His new appointment ends September 30, 2027.

Upon the reappointment, Gov. Inslee wrote: “I ask that you take personal responsibility for making sure the Community Colleges of Spokane Board of Trustees operates in a way that is transparent, responsive and focused on implementing lean management tools to achieve results.”

Johnson is serving his fifth term as the mayor of Pullman and has a history of being in the college setting. He graduated from the community college Modesto Junior College in California and previously taught at Sacramento City College. Johnson has served as the co-chair of the legislative committee of the Association of College Trustees and is currently its secretary. He is also the Professor Emeritus for Washington State University and taught courses in television news and communications management in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication. He applies those communications skills as the public address announcer for WSU’s Cougar football and men’s basketball.

Regarding his reappointment to CCS’ board, Johnson said, “It’s been an honor to serve these vibrant community colleges in Spokane and work with outstanding administrators, faculty, staff and fellow trustees.”

As part of the trustees, Johnson has a part in finding a replacement for outgoing chancellor, Christine Johnson who retires on Dec. 31, 2022.

“We are all facing an enormous challenge in the next few months of replacing our retiring chancellor,” he said, “but we know the excellent reputation of our colleges here in Spokane will help us in the recruitment.”

In addition to serving on CCS’ Board of Trustees, Johnson chairs the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport board and Employee Benefit Trust. He also serves on the Washington State Transportation Board, Community Action Center of Whitman County, the Pullman Chamber of Commerce and is secretary-treasurer of the Washington State Association of Broadcasters.

CCS provides education and services in a six-county region of Eastern Washington, operates Spokane Falls Community College and Spokane Community College is the largest provider of Head Start and Early Childhood Education in the region. Each year, nearly 30,000 people – from infants to senior citizens – are provided educational services by CCS.
