In June, Community Colleges of Spokane’s Chancellor Christine Johnson, Ph.D., announced her selection of Lori Hunt, Ed.D., as the new provost for CCS. Hunt had been serving as acting provost since last fall. The announcement follows a nationwide search process and districtwide interviews with finalists.
Hunt has worked at CCS for nearly a decade, serving in a variety of roles both at the community college district and at Spokane Community College where she served as the Dean of Student Success until being asked to move into the acting provost role.
“Dr. Hunt has demonstrated her deep commitment to the goals and values of CCS and consistently advocates on behalf of our students,” Johnson said. “During her time as acting provost, she provided essential leadership and fresh ideas for this important work.”
At CCS the provost oversees Corporate & Continuing Education, eLearning, Global Education, Grants, and the District Institutional Research departments. The CCS Provost works closely with college vice presidents to ensure Strategic Plan priorities are measured and progress made reported on wide variety of student success and program quality indicators.
“I am honored to serve CCS in this role and to continue supporting our important work in these changing times,” Hunt said. “I have spent much of my life in the CCS service area, beginning as a Head Start student in Pend Oreille County and then attending college at Gonzaga and WSU, and am excited to continue giving back to the communities that have invested in me."
Hunt’s career spans nearly 20 years with experience in K-12, community college and four-year universities. At SCC, when Hunt served as the Dean of Student Success, she led Campus Visits, Career Services, Counseling, Dual Enrollment, Marketing & Outreach, Multicultural Student Services, Veterans’ Services and Workforce Transitions departments. Prior to this, she served as a Site Manager for Washington State University’s GEAR UP program in Pasco, Community Colleges of Spokane District Director of Outreach, was an Assistant Director of Admission at Whitman College and an Admission Counselor at Gonzaga University.
Connecting to the community, Hunt serves on numerous boards including the Washington State University Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine Equity Board, College Success Foundation Spokane Regional Board, Volunteers of America E. WA/North Idaho and the Slingshot boards. She also serves as the Eastern Washington Citizen representative on the Washington State Governors Family Medical Advisory Board. Since returning to Spokane in 2012, she has also served as a committee member and chair/co-chair for the Spokane African American Graduation Committee as well as a member of the Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling (PNACAC) Spokane College Fair committee.
Hunt earned her doctorate and master’s degrees in Educational Leadership at Washington State University and completed her bachelor’s degree in Sociology at Gonzaga University.
