Student survey sheds light on how students are adjusting to remote instruction

Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College continue to survey students to assess adjustment and need during this unique quarter. In this fourth student survey, students were queried on adapting to and connecting in the online environment.

While most students reported confidence in completing the quarter, 20% of SFCC and SCC students reported a degree of doubt that they will complete, with roughly 4 to 5% saying they had no confidence in completing successfully.

What’s more, about half of students at both campuses indicated they were adapting well to online classes, with about a quarter reporting they were enjoying the online format and course.

We know this quarter – so far – has been immeasurably difficult for students, not to mention our faculty and staff. And we know we’d like to see each of our students succeed in this remote learning environment.Which is why we created a Virtual Campus experience for both SCC and SFCC students, including a list of remote student services. At SFCC, students can connect directly with staff over Zoom. And at SCC, staff are reachable during normal business hours by phone and email.

And on the bright side, we just passed the 5-weeks-into-the-quarter threshold. The weather is looking pretty nice, too.
