CCS 2019 commencements set for Friday

Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College will confer more than 3,100 degrees and certificates upon students at graduation ceremonies at the Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane on Friday, June 14.

An additional 254 certificates and degrees were awarded earlier this week at SCC’s five rural education sites and the SFCC campus in Pullman, and another 448 were conferred through the SCC Adult Basic Education program.

The SCC commencement starts at 3 p.m. Friday and the SFCC commencement begins at 7 p.m. at the Arena, 720 W. Mallon Ave.

SCC’s main Spokane campus is awarding 584 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees as well as 440 certificates and degrees in business, hospitality and information technology, 644 certificates and degrees in technical education, and 295 certificates and degrees in health and environmental sciences.

SFCC in Spokane will award approximately 1,200 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees, associate of applied science (AAS) degrees, and certificates and professional degrees on Friday. Among the graduates are 163 Running Start students from 27 high schools in the area who are earning both their high school diplomas and college degrees. Also, 85 international students from 15 countries including China, Japan, Tunisia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Nepal, Malaysia, South Korea, Myanmar, Kenya, Indonesia, Zambia, Hong Kong and Iran will earn degrees.

Earlier this week on Monday, SFCC’s Pullman campus awarded 43 AA degrees, five High School Completions and two GEDs.

On Tuesday, SCC’s Adult Basic Education program awarded 325 GEDs, 45 English as a Second Language certificates, and 67 High School Completions. There were 11 students who graduated from the College-to-Career program, which is designed to support students who experience an intellectual disability.

On Wednesday, SCC’s Newport and Ione centers held a joint commencement and awarded 30 associate degrees – including 11 to Running Start students – 10 technical and professional certificates and five GEDs and High School Completions.

On Thursday, the Colville, Inchelium and Republic centers held a combined commencement and awarded 91 associate degrees, 30 career and technical certificates and 41 GED and High School Completions.

Community Colleges of Spokane is a dynamic, 12,300-square-mile state community college district that includes Spokane Community College, Spokane Falls Community College and six rural education sites, serving residents in Pend Oreille, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry and parts of Lincoln counties.
