SFCC Instructor Doug Crabtree Awarded AAF Lifetime Achievement Award

The American Advertising Federation (AAF) Spokane awarded Doug Crabtree with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Advertising Awards on March 10. Crabtree is a graphic design instructor at Spokane Falls Community College.

Every year the AAF AdPro Committee selects an annual advertising professional to be the professional of the year. However, the committee also can designate a Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize a career full of contribution and enrichment of the profession, though it does not happen every year.

Crabtree has been with SFCC for more than 20 years and previously held positions at local agencies and television stations. Learn about his career in design in a video produced for the awards: http://graphicdesign.spokanefalls.edu/dZine/images/AAF_Doug_Crabtree.mp4.

The SFCC graphic design program is an intensive course of study preparing students for jobs in design studios, advertising agencies, corporate in-house design departments and other businesses using computers to create design, advertising, websites and promotional pieces.

SFCC students took home 33 of the 36 awards given out to students at the awards as well. The program is looking for the next cohort of students and is conducting interviews June 12 -14. Learn more at http://graphicdesign.spokanefalls.edu/dZine/apply.html.

The Inland Northwest American Advertising Awards Competition is the first level of a three-tiered national competition conducted annually by AAF. The American Advertising Awards Competition is open to any individual, company or organization engaged in the creation of advertising. Gold and Silver awards may be awarded in each category of competition at the discretion of the judges. All local winners are forwarded to the District XI American Advertising Awards Competition.

The Awards Show can be likened to the Oscars of our local advertising and marketing industry. AAF organization focuses on education and career development for those pursuing careers in the arts, marketing and advertising. The American Advertising Awards recognize and award the best annual creative work in our region. The event brings together the region’s community of artists – creative directors, art directors, designers, developers and more.
