CCS Class of 2018 takes flight

Spokane Community College (SCC) and Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) students have earned more than 3,200 college degrees and professional certificates, plus nearly 400 certificates signifying GED, ESL or high school completion, as commencement ceremonies gear up beginning Monday, June 11.

Community Colleges of Spokane’s 2018 graduation schedule and details:

Monday, June 11, 6:30 p.m.
SFCC Pullman Campus commencement, Jones Theater, Washington State University, Daggy Hall, Northwest corner of Idaho St. and College Ave. Pullman, Wash.
SFCC Pullman Campus is awarding 20 AA degrees and 1 AAS degree. In addition, eight students are receiving their High School Completions and two are receiving their GEDs.

Tuesday, June 12, 6 p.m.
Adult Basic Education-College-GED-ESL graduation, Spokane Community College, Johnson Sports Complex, Building 5, 1810 N. Greene St.:
A total of 280 students earned GEDs, 49 English as a Second Language certificates and 42 earned High School Completions. There are also 10 College to Career graduates. College to Career is an innovative program at Spokane Community College designed to support students who experience an intellectual disability. Students are provided supports to take college level course in their career field and gain valuable work experience on campus and in the community.

Wednesday, June 13, 6:30 p.m.
SCC Newport Center commencement, Stratton Elementary, 1201 W. Fifth, Newport, Wash.:
The center is awarding 25 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees and 2 associate in applied science (AAS) degrees. Eight students earned their GEDs.

Thursday, June 14, 6 p.m.
SCC Colville-Inchelium-Republic Centers commencement, Colville Center, 985 S. Elm St., Colville, Wash.:
The Centers are awarding 65 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees (59 Colville graduates, 1 from Inchelium and 5 from Republic), 13 associate in applied science (AAS) degrees (12 from Colville and 1 from Republic) and 4 professional certificates (3 Colville graduates and 1 Republic graduate).Sixteen students earned their GEDs from Colville and 1 student from Republic earned a High School Completion degree.

Friday, June 15, 3 p.m.
SFCC commencement, Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, 720 W. Mallon Ave.:
1,251 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees, associate of applied science (AAS) degrees, certificates and professional degrees. Of these 1,251, 155 Running Start students from 23 high schools in the area who are earning both their high school diplomas and college degrees and 21 international students from China, India, Japan, Kenya, Spain, Taiwan, Tunisia, Vietnam who are receiving their degrees today. Rosi Guerrero, SFCC music instructor, will be the keynote speaker.

Friday, June 15, 7 p.m.
SCC commencement, Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, 720 W. Mallon Ave.:
SCC is awarding 557 associate of arts (AA) transfer degrees. The school is also awarding 342 in Business, Hospitality and Information Technology, 88 nursing degrees, 276 in Health and Environmental Sciences and 612 in Technical Education associate of applied science (AAS) degrees and professional certificates. There are 118 Running Start students receiving both their high school diplomas and AA degrees.

Community Colleges of Spokane is a dynamic, 12,300-square-mile state community college district that includes Spokane Community College, Spokane Falls Community College and six rural education sites, serving residents in Pend Oreille, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry and parts of Lincoln counties.
