Instructure/Canvas Incident (updated 5.29.26)

We have received new information from Instructure, the company that operates Canvas, regarding the security incident that took place in early May.

Following preliminary findings from Instructure’s forensic investigation, institutions believed to have been impacted were notified on May 21 regarding the specifics of any potential data exposure. Spokane Colleges has been informed that as of now, Instructure does not believe our data was involved in this incident.

We will continue to monitor the situation and remain actively engaged as Instructure completes their ongoing review and investigation. In the meantime, please remain vigilant and aware of potential scam/phishing emails that you may receive. If you receive one of these emails, do not reply, do not make any payments, do not click on links, do not open attachments, and do not enter any information. Instead, report the email to IT by using the "Report Email" button.

What steps can I take to protect myself?

Contact the Federal Trade Commission's Identity Theft Website if you think your personal information has been compromised.

  • Monitor credit cards and bank accounts. Regularly monitor your financial accounts and report any suspicious activity to your financial institutions immediately.
